BMW Automotive (Ireland) Limited has announced a voluntary recall affecting multiple series of BMW vehicles due to safety concerns. One of the issues involves certain BMW Ix3 vehicles where head airbags may not have been properly bolted, posing a risk of incorrect deployment during an accident, which could lead to injury. A total of 58 vehicles produced between December 18, 2025, and May 8, 2026, are impacted by this issue.
Another recall affects the 5 series, 7 series, i5, i7, and M5 models, where a damaged cockpit cable harness during microfilter replacement could cause a short circuit, potentially resulting in smoke and fire. This recall includes 1,067 vehicles manufactured between June 9, 2022, and December 5, 2025.
Additionally, certain 3 series and M3 vehicles are being recalled due to a malfunctioning driver airbag inflator that may burst during deployment, posing a risk of serious injury from metal fragments. This affects 1,485 vehicles produced from November 3, 1998, to August 24, 2006. Similarly, 1 and 3 series X1, X3, and M3 models are also at risk for the same inflator issue, with 6,992 vehicles manufactured between July 23, 2010, and June 30, 2015.
Lastly, 197 vehicles from the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 series X3, X4, and X5 models are recalled due to a starter relay problem that could lead to accidental start-up or short circuits. Furthermore, 315 X3 vehicles are being recalled because of a steering system sensor malfunction that could cause unintended steering movements, increasing the risk of accidents. Consumers are advised to contact BMW’s customer care for further instructions and to schedule necessary repairs.
