BMW recalls certain series vehicles due to airbag and fire hazards

BMW Automotive (Ireland) Limited is conducting a voluntary recall of several BMW vehicle models due to safety concerns. The affected models include the BMW Ix3, 5 series, 7 series, i5, i7, M5, 3 series, M3, 1 series, X1, X3, X4, X5, and others. Specific issues range from improperly bolted head airbags that may deploy incorrectly to damaged cockpit cable harnesses that could cause fires. Additionally, there are concerns about malfunctioning airbag inflators that may burst, posing a risk of serious injury from metal fragments.

In total, there are thousands of vehicles affected across different production dates. For instance, the 3 series and M3 models produced between November 1998 and August 2006 have a risk of airbag inflator malfunction, while the 5 and 7 series vehicles from June 2022 to December 2025 may experience short circuits. Other models, such as the X3, have steering sensor issues that could lead to unintended vehicle movements.

BMW will contact all affected customers directly by post, advising them to schedule an appointment with their local Authorised Repairer for necessary repairs or replacements. If vehicle owners believe their vehicle may be impacted, they are encouraged to reach out to BMW’s customer care for assistance.
