The recall is due to a safety concern where water may enter the starter motor, potentially causing corrosion. This could prevent the engine from starting and may lead to overheating and a fire risk. A total of 6,821 vehicles produced between September 28, 2015, and September 7, 2021, are affected in the Republic of Ireland.
Additionally, certain 2 series, iX2, X2, iX1, and X1 vehicles are being recalled due to incorrectly manufactured front seat belts, which may not provide adequate protection in a collision. This affects 25 vehicles produced between June 18, 2025, and August 25, 2025. Another recall involves X3 vehicles with potentially faulty headrests that may not offer sufficient protection during an accident, impacting 8 vehicles made between July 11, 2024, and July 15, 2025.
Furthermore, BMW is recalling specific 3 Series, 4 Series, i4, 5 Series, i5, and X3 vehicles due to issues with the positive battery cable, which could lead to starting problems and fire risks. This affects 2 vehicles produced between September 1, 2023, and February 25, 2025. Another recall addresses a problem with the B+ cable in X3 vehicles that could result in overheating and fire, affecting 1 vehicle made between July 9, 2024, and February 3, 2025.
Lastly, certain 2 series, 5 series, i5, 7 series, i7, X1, iX1, X2, iX2, X5, X6, X7, XM, X5M, and X6M vehicles are recalled due to a welding issue in the servomotor, which may compromise braking performance. This affects 4 vehicles produced between July 6, 2022, and November 13, 2024. Affected customers will be contacted directly by BMW and are advised to schedule an appointment with an authorized repairer for necessary repairs.
