SHEIN recalls Multi Colour Ultra Fine Quartz Sand due to asbestos risk

SHEIN has announced a recall for its Multi Colour Ultra Fine Quartz Sand, which was sold through the SHEIN marketplace by the third-party seller Ruian Yunwu E-Commerce Co., Ltd. The recall is due to concerns that the sand may contain asbestos, a substance that is prohibited in the EU because of its health risks. Although the Health Service Executive (HSE) has indicated that the risk to human health from these products is currently considered low, the recall is being conducted as a precautionary measure.

Consumers who have purchased this product are advised to stop using it immediately. If the sand is still in its packaging, it should be placed in a heavy-duty plastic bag, sealed securely, and labeled clearly before being stored out of reach of children. For those who have already used the sand, it is recommended to clean the area with wet cloths to prevent dust from being generated, while wearing gloves and a protective mask. The used sand, along with any cleaning materials, should also be double-bagged, sealed, labeled, and stored securely.

Consumers are encouraged to contact their local authority for guidance on proper disposal of the product. Additionally, it is advised to keep children and others away from areas where the sand was used until they have been thoroughly cleaned.
