Petzl has issued a recall for its Astro rope access harnesses that were made before October 2023. The issue arises when the harness is subjected to high lateral pressure, which can cause the screws to wear out. This wear may lead to the ventral D-ring’s pin releasing, resulting in the attachment point opening and posing a serious risk of injury or death.
The affected products include the ASTRO BOD FAST (European and International versions) and ASTRO SIT FAST harnesses, with all serial numbers below 23J 9999999 999. Approximately 297 of these harnesses are affected in the Republic of Ireland.
Customers are advised to stop using the harnesses immediately and inspect them. To determine if their harness is part of the recall and to obtain a replacement kit, customers should refer to the Petzl safety notice. Even if a harness has been previously inspected and has a compliance sticker, users should still proceed with the replacement once they receive the kit.
