PMS International various squishy toys recalled due to asbestos risk

PMS International has issued a recall for several squishy toys, including the 17cm Jumbo Mr Splat Stretch Man, Squishy Sausage Dog, 5.6cm Squishy Puppies, 6.5cm Wishing Bottle, and 9cm Squishy Sand Yeti Monster. The recall is due to concerns that the sand used in these toys may contain asbestos, a substance banned in the EU because of its health risks.

While the Health Service Executive (HSE) has indicated that the current risk to human health from these products is low, consumers are advised to stop using them immediately. If the sand is still in its packaging, it should be placed in a heavy-duty plastic bag, sealed, labeled, and stored securely out of reach of children. If the product is damaged and the sand is exposed, it is important to clean the area with wet cloths to prevent dust from forming, while wearing gloves and a protective mask.

Consumers who have purchased these toys from retailers such as Now Newsagents Ltd, Stellar Retail Ltd, and Bobby's Fishing Tackle should contact the place of purchase for a refund. Additionally, it is recommended to double bag all contaminated materials and store them securely prior to disposal. The CCPC is working with health and safety authorities and will provide further updates as necessary.
