Toyota Ireland has announced a voluntary recall affecting several models of vehicles, including Proace, Highlander, and Proace City. The recall is due to different safety concerns that could pose risks to drivers and passengers. For the Proace vehicles, those equipped with a 1.5L engine may face engine failure due to water pump pulley slippage, which can lead to complete loss of engine power and increase the risk of accidents. A total of 71 vehicles produced between 15 October 2025 and 02 November 2026 are affected by this issue.
In addition, the Highlander vehicles have a problem with the second-row seat recliner assemblies. A design flaw may prevent the recliner teeth from fully engaging during seatback adjustments, which could lead to unsafe seating conditions. There are 124 Highlander vehicles involved in this recall, produced between 08 April 2021 and 27 January 2023.
Lastly, certain Proace and Proace City vehicles equipped with diesel engines may experience fuel leakage from the common rail due to a manufacturing defect. This could potentially lead to fuel vapour and flow towards the hot exhaust system, creating a fire hazard. This recall affects 6 vehicles produced between 29 July 2025 and 9 October 2025.
