A safety issue has been identified whereby on some vehicles manufactured during a specific period, it is possible that the front passenger airbag may have a reduced protective effect when deployed in an accident. As a result, there may be an increased risk of injury to a passenger. In addition, if the front passenger airbag is deployed as a result of an accident, the gas generator housing may burst or components of the gas generator housing may come loose and cause serious or fatal injuries to vehicle occupants.

On certain Tiguan vehicles with manual seat height adjustment from a limited production period, a tear to a belt of the front seats may occur in the event of a frontal crash. This is due to defective protective felt on the lever of the seat height adjustment. In the event of a frontal crash, the safety belt may get between the seat cladding and the lever and then damage the safety belt. The restraining performance of the safety belts may therefore be impaired.
