BMW recalls multiple series vehicles due to airbag and fire hazards

BMW Automotive (Ireland) Limited has announced a voluntary recall for several BMW vehicle series due to safety concerns. Certain BMW 1 Series and Ix3 vehicles have head airbags that may not be properly bolted, which could lead to incorrect deployment in an accident, posing a risk of injury. Additionally, specific 3 Series and M3 models have driver airbag inflators that may malfunction, potentially resulting in a burst inflator that could cause serious injuries. The affected vehicles were produced between 1998 and 2016.

Furthermore, a recall has been issued for 5 Series, 7 Series, i5, i7, and M5 vehicles due to a risk of fire from damaged cockpit cable harnesses when replacing the microfilter. There are also concerns regarding the RSW22 starter in various models, which could lead to accidental start-up or short circuits. Lastly, some X3 vehicles may experience unintended steering movements due to a malfunctioning steering system sensor.

In total, there are thousands of vehicles affected in the Republic of Ireland, with production dates ranging from 1998 to 2026. BMW will contact all affected customers directly by post, advising them to schedule an appointment with their local Authorized Repairer for necessary repairs or replacements.
