Gowan Distributors Limited (Opel Ireland) is carrying out a recall of certain Opel Grandland X model vehicles.
Some Opel/Vauxhall Grandland X vehicles with dual‑pinion electric power steering may lose power steering assist, causing the steering to lock. This problem is the result of a mechanical failure in the gearbox bearing (the ball separator may become detached), combined with a specific defect in the calibration of the power assisted steering software (EPS) relating to the adjustment of steering feel. The steering mechanism may then lock, meaning the steering wheel cannot be turned.

Some vehicles may have been assembled with contact, or insufficient clearance (< 10 mm), between the tube of the petrol particulate filter and the terminal protection cap of the 48 V belt-driven starter alternator. In wet conditions, the insufficient clearance and possible contact between these components can lead to water infiltration, causing an electric arc which may trigger a thermal event, such as overheating. In the worst-case scenario, this could lead to a potential risk of fire in the engine compartment.

The pipe is less elastic and has lower thermal stability. This could lead to an insufficient connection between the fuel return pipe and the valve, leading to a fuel leak. The possibility of fuel coming into contact with hot parts cannot be ruled out, which in the worst-case scenario could cause the vehicle to catch fire.
