Hyundai Cars Ireland is conducting a voluntary recall of specific models due to safety concerns. The recall affects the Hyundai Santa-Fe, Kona, i30, and Ioniq 6, with a total of 6,034 vehicles involved in the recall across the Republic of Ireland. Each model has distinct issues that pose risks to drivers and passengers.
The Hyundai Santa-Fe models produced between 13 March 2023 and 24 March 2026 have a problem with the front seat belt snap-on anchor, which may become misaligned or loose. This could compromise the effectiveness of the seat belt in the event of a collision.
The Kona models manufactured between 24 January 2018 and 15 July 2023 have faulty battery monitoring software that fails to detect thermal instability in the high-voltage battery, increasing the risk of fire. The i30 models from 07 December 2008 to 24 February 2009 are equipped with a driver-side airbag inflator that could rupture during deployment, potentially causing injury to occupants. Lastly, the Ioniq 6 models produced between 29 August 2022 and 03 January 2025 may have a charging port door that can detach while driving, creating a hazard for other road users.
