Electriq gas hobs recalled due to risk of gas leaks from elbow joint

Electriq has issued a recall for its gas hobs due to a safety concern regarding the gas supply elbow joint. This issue affects models manufactured after May 2019, which may be installed in homes, holiday homes, caravans, and boats. The specific models involved include IQGH603S, IQGH604B, IQGH604W, IQGH75BG, IQGH75S, IQGH75WG, IQGHVOL, and IQGH77B. The exact batch numbers and barcodes are not provided, but approximately 650 units have been sold in the Republic of Ireland.

The hazard arises from the possibility of the gas supply elbow joint fracturing, which can result in gas leaks. Such leaks pose significant risks, including burns, fire, explosion, and poisoning from inhalation, which could potentially be life-threatening. Consumers who own these gas hobs are strongly advised to refrain from using them until further notice.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) is working with the manufacturer to ensure that affected consumers are informed about this safety issue and the necessary steps to mitigate the risks.
